Reference – Production hall Vialis – ESD
Vialis develops integrated solutions for managing traffic flows on the road and on waterways. In recent years they realized various traffic systems for, among other things, bridges, viaducts and railway crossings. Vialis improves the safety, sustainability and traffic flow of the Dutch infrastructure with intelligent solutions. They produce instruments under their own management that have the essential function to streamline the infrastructure. In order to increase production capacity and safety, they have renovated their production hall. For this renovated production hall with 24 workplaces, Vialis was looking for a floor system that prevents the build-up of static electricity and guarantees a safe working environment.
Safety on the work floor
Work safety is an important pillar at Vialis, it was one of the reasons to apply a floor system that would withstand not only daily loads but also withstands electrostatic voltage build-up and to prevent damage to equipment and components due to uncontrolled electrostatic charges. These small electrostatic discharges can disrupt the equipment and cause malfunctions during assembly.
EPI ESD Floors
EPI ESD/ATEX floorsystems prevent electrostatic voltage build-up and comply with the currently applicable standard NEN-EN-IEC 61340-5-1:2016 which describes the general requirements for a ESD safe work environment (EPA).
Part of this standard is the “Walking test”, this walking test measures the body tension while a person wearing ESD shoes walks on the floor. Horizontal continuity resistance is measured by means of a human standing on the workfloor wearing ESD shoes, the total resistance chain between the human and the earth reference point (ARP) should not exceed 1 x 109 Ω.
In this renewed production hall the ESD-floor is applied underneath workstations and walkways that have additonal slip-resistance. This ensures a safe place to work for the employees.
